“Everything must come to an end” and this trip was not the exception. I bring with me back to México heaps of good memories about this journey, and the great feeling about a trip that exceeded my expectations and turned into an amazing experience.

So, for my last week in Brisbane, I decided I would go super active and enjoy this city to the last sip, instead of staying still and weeping about leaving. I did some of my favorite things, and tried some new and so: this was my final week:

Fin de Semana en Sydney

Es chistoso cuando la vida te lleva a lugares que no esperabas y no planeabas. Así fue para mi este viaje a Sydney, un viaje de último momento, al cual solo iba de compañera, no era mi sueño, no tenía objetivos, no tenía expectativas, más que de disfrutar y esa es otra forma (muy buena) de vivir un viaje.

El fin de semana fue de lo mas relajado, sin contratiempos, el clima es más cálido que en Queensland, por lo cual, el primer día que salimos a pasear sin bloqueador fue la perdición. Todo el tiempo se sentía como el sol ardía en nuestra piel y al volver a casa teníamos un bronceado de lo más irregular. La ciudad en general es muy distinta a todas las que he conocido, el ambiente acelerado, joven y glamoroso del CBD hace mucho contraste con la zona “alternativa” y relajada de Kings Cross y las playas de Bondi y Coogee, llenas de movimiento y gente joven de todas las nacionalidades haciendo actividades desde surf, soccer, bbqs, entrenando para ser salvavidas, o simplemente tomandose unas buenas cervecitas con los amigos, crean una vibra super particular.

En general me gustó mucho Sydney, me encantan las ciudades que están llenas de contrastes. Como el hecho de seguir manteniendo una arquitectura clásica donde puedes ver aun castillos, edificios y fabricas viejas que interactuan con bares y clubs nocturnos para el movimiento tan fuerte de jovenes. Así como el hecho de tener el CBD tan corporativo, tan profesional y a unas cuantas cuadras el relajamiento de los yates y el ambiente super relajado y turístico de Darlings Harbour.

En general ir a Sydney fue una super experiencia. Me encantó poder conocer la ciudad y decir yo estuve ahí. Pero sinceramente, mi favorita sigue siendo Brisbane, donde tienes todos los beneficios de una gran ciudad como Sydney, pero todo bajo un ritmo relajado. Porque yo ya me adapté a la frase del típico queenslander: Relax! This is Queensland.

State Library of Queensland

Another visit to a cool spot in Brisbane’s Cultural Centre, this time the State Library of Queensland.
Once again, i’m amazed by how great spaces are built and designed for the community to join and share the same space but having so much freedom and power to learn, explore, create, and feel inspired.
There is a place called the “Red Room” where I don’t know how you are supossed to concentrate having such a breathtaking 180° view from the CBD around you.

On 25 October 2007 the State Library building was voted Australia’s ‘Building of the Year’ at the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) Awards ceremony with accolades going to architects Donovan Hill Peddle Thorp.

“The State Library is culturally and climatically a Queenslander – partly grand library and part community hall with its interiors opening like the chapters of a good book”

Ladyhawke Live!

Al decidir quedarme un par de meses más fuera de la ciudad, decidí también perderme ver en vivo a dos de mis bandas favoritas en México: Depeche Mode y Kings of Leon. Mi único consuelo fue que, en cuanto decidiera cambiar mi boleto, también compraría mi boleto para ver a Ladyhawke el 5 de Noviembre en el Tivoli en Brisbane.

Así que este jueves pasado, salí del trabajo (porque ese día me toco ir a BWM) y me fuí al Valley a prepararme para el concierto. Después de muchas vueltas a lo largo de muchas cuadras, encontré el Tivoli (con la ayuda del iPhone con 3G de Victor) y después de encontrarme con algunos amigos, comenzó el concierto.

Ladyhawke tiene toda la actitud de una rockstar. La música es pop-electro-rockcito sabroson, que se disfruta mucho en vivo. Definitivamente un concierto muy bueno para disfrutar con los amigos, mientras te echas unos drinks, nada alocado ni efusivo. Definitivamente no se compara con lo que hubiera sido Depeche Mode, pero, en general muy buena decisión de ir a ver a la kiwi girl. Aquí les dejo unos videitos que grabé.

Inspiration: Tim Johnson

In my visit to the Queensland Art Gallery last weekend, I found out about a great artist whose bright visuals mixing australian, japanese an even tibetan styles, impressed me and inspired me in a way that no other artist had in a long time. It was refreshing being able to see something so different from what i’m used to. Let me introduce you to: Tim Johnson.

Tim Johnson is an artist whose interests and influences span eastern philosophy, Aboriginal desert painting, Native American cultures and even Japanese Manga. In the early nineteen nineties Johnson began collaborating with Tibetan ‘thangka’ painter Karma Phuntsok who has painted some of the brightly coloured figures that emerge from a field of golden dots in Temples 2008. Johnson’s collaborations highlight the differences and similarities between various philosophies and belief systems.

Queensland Art Gallery

Last saturday I spend my afternoon at the Queensland Art Gallery to find some inspiration and new ideas. I was amazed of how beautiful the museum it is, in it’s architecture and interiors. As well as the great exhibitions held that weekend. I particularly found myself very interested in the work of the Australian painter called Tim Johnson. I love when I get to know now artists to inspire me.

The Queensland Art Gallery was established in 1895 and is Queensland’s premier visual arts institution and a leading art museum nationally. The Gallery’s driving philosophy is to connect art and people.

Project Info: Website for ADN Design, a design studio I run with my two partners: Pau Balbuena & Fernando Mireles. It was built in Flash CS3, focusing in showing our skills, services, as well as to showcase our portfolio in an effective and functional way.

We are really happy with the results we’ve had with the site, but soon we’ll be upgrading the site to version 3.o!
